How to spend the last 7 days of Christmas (without gifting any swans)
By Steve Graham
Get Out of Town is our weekly roundup of recommended events across Colorado, mostly focusing outside of Denver, to help everyone enjoy the entire state. For more happenings, check out our events calendar.
Ugly Sweater Party in Centennial
It’s a mystery where My Neighbor Felix keeps its truly absurd amount of Christmas decor when it’s not silly season. Every inch of their four locations seems to have been decked out by Buddy the Elf.
If you haven’t seen the Mexican kitchen and bar in all its holiday glory, you have an extra excuse to go to the Centennial location on Friday for the Jingle & Mingle Ugly Sweater Party. The event starts at 8 p.m., and also includes passed appetizers, drink tastings and holiday games. The LoHi location in Denver hosts its version starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Beer fest in Georgetown
Cabin Creek Brewing hosts its second annual Hops & Holly Beer Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in downtown Georgetown. At least 12 Colorado breweries will pour samples in a giant heated tent. The event also includes live music, and food and merchandise vendors. Tickets include a taster glass, unlimited samples and a custom beanie.
Yule Festival in Colorado Springs
The Rocky Mountain Yule Festival is a three-day winter solstice celebration Friday to Sunday at the Antlers Hotel in downtown Colorado Springs. Friday events include a Krampus March and Krampus Kabaret. Saturday brings a cosplay contest and winter ball. The festival also includes shopping, food, games and a white elephant gift exchange.
Vampire ball in Westminster
For those who need a break from all the jolly elves and merry caroling, DarknessCon hosts a Nosferatu-themed vampire ball on Saturday in Westminster, in honor of the new “Nosferatu” movie. The Queens of Darkness will play haunting dance music all night, and there is a costume contest at 10:30 p.m.
Jingle Jam in Colorado Springs
Red Leg Brewing in Colorado Springs hosts a Saturday night dance party, with DJs, a limbo contest and a festive costume competition to claim the Holiday Cheermeister Award.
Bike the lights in Brush
The bicycle adventure crew will bike around Brush (an hour drive east of Greeley) to check out festive lights on businesses, churches, and homes at 6 p.m. Friday. The ride starts at the Sands Movie Theatre, and ends with warm drinks.
As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. If they don’t fit in the Get Out of Town column, we will add them to our events calendar.
