GET OUT OF TOWN

By the Thirst Team

Get Out of Town is our roundup of the best events across Colorado for the next few weeks. For more happenings, check out our events calendar.

Art exhibit opens in Colorado Springs Thursday

The Ent Center for the Arts opens a new exhibit by globetrotting Colorado Springs native Nina Elder.

Her work is rooted in field research and collaboration with scientists, and it relates to climate change and cultural change. Her drawings incorporate unconventional materials such as wildfire ash and pulverized rocks.

The free opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Denver Arts Week picks

Denver Arts Week opens Friday, with events, special exhibits and discounts at venues all over the Denver area. The arts week website lists hundreds of offerings. We did your homework and picked one recommendation for each day this weekend.

Friday: The 40 West Arts District’s First Friday is a particularly diverse and underrated event, and includes the Genesis Gallery just off West Colfax in Lakewood. Genesis hosts an opening reception on Friday for the 2025 Dia de Los Muertos exhibit, including work by international papier mache artist Carlos Lecenda.

Saturday: At least 20 museums offer free admission and additional evening hours for Night at the Museums. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science has several new exhibits, but it’s also a chance to visit lesser-known spots such as the Museo de las Americas, a Latin American art museum on Santa Fe Drive.

Sunday: The groundbreaking modern art at the Clyfford Still Museum is Still’s art is enhanced during Music in the Galleries performances. Denver singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Zoe Berman will perform at noon and 1 p.m. Sunday in the galleries.

Comedy season opens in Beaver Creek Thursday

Beloved standup comedian and film star Hannibal Buress takes the stage for the first of several comedy shows at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek.

The schedule also includes Hannah Berner on Jan. 18, Demitri Martin on March 7 and Colorado YouTube sensation Dude Dad on March 27.

Night of the Dead in Manitou Springs Friday

The 13th annual Noche de Los Muertos festival is coming to the Rockledge Inn on the final night of Mexico’s traditional Day of the Dead week. The event includes live music by Moonhoney and DJ El Salvaje, Latin dance performances, a symbolic skeleton burning ceremony to honor the departed, face painting and fortune tellers. Attendees are invited to bring a memento to add to the Ofrenda, and dress up in Day of the Dead costumes and makeup.

Denver Fashion Week runs Nov. 8 to 16 in the RiNo neighborhood.

Denver Fashion Week starts Saturday

Denver Fashion Week also is back, with seven runway shows between Saturday, Nov. 8, and Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Brighton in Denver’s RiNo neighborhood. New Curious Theatre show opens Saturday

Curious Theatre in Denver will stage the regional debut of Max Wolf Friedlich’s “Job” from Nov. 8 to Dec. 7

The edgy and award-winning theater company calls the show “a taut, provocative thriller that asks urgent questions about mental health, corporate loyalty, and what we’re willing to sacrifice to keep our place in the system.”

Denver Brass concerts Saturday and Sunday

The Denver Brass classical ensemble will record a live album, featuring works written by Hennessy, Wolfe, Ellisor, Denler, and Pfoltner. Joseph Galema will join the group on pipe organ.
