Inspiring films, full moon skiing, brewery openings and an icy grandpa’s party on tap

Get Out of Town is our weekly roundup of recommended events across Colorado. For more happenings, check out our events calendar.
Adventure films at Brewability
On Thursday, Brewability in Englewood will screen a pair of award-winning short films, followed by a behind-the-scenes discussion and audience Q&A with the films’ stars and their family caregivers. The event is hosted by famed blind adventurer Erik Weihenmayer and his No Barriers non-profit.
Brewability is an inclusive brewery and pizzeria that employs people living with disabilities, and No Barriers offers multi-step programs and outdoor adventures for people with a wide range of disabilities.
The movies are “From My Window” and “Kara - Star of the World.” The event is free, but donations are appreciated.
Final Full Moon ski trip
Sometimes it feels like we wait forever for ski season, then it just zooms by. There is still plenty of spring schussing to come at Colorado resorts, but the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center in Leadville is already ending its full moon ski series on Saturday.
Nordic skiing starts at 6 p.m., followed by a dance party, mobile sauna and cold plunge. The event is free, and skiers are encouraged to dress like their favorite planets.
Arc’Teryx and Weston Backcountry also will offer gear giveaways and demos.
Boulder International Film Festival
While Boulder waits for a verdict on the Sundance Film Festival relocation, it will continue hosting its namesake festival, which opens Thursday.
A wide variety of films and filmmakers from around the world will be in Boulder through Sunday. In addition to film screenings, festival events include filmmaking workshops, happy hour events, opening night galas, live music and more.
Jane Lynch, of “Glee,” “Best in Show” and 243 other IMDB acting credits, will receive the festival’s entertainer of the year award. Tickets are available for a career retrospective interview with Lynch on Saturday night.
Other highlights include “The Color Book,” featuring 12-year-old Aurora resident Jeremiah Daniels, and an opening night screening of “The Friend,” a new film starring Naomi Watts and Bill Murray.
Frozen Dead Guy Days
A hometown celebration of Boulder County’s famous frozen dead guy, Grandpa Bredo, has outgrown the town of Nederland, where he was frozen in a Tuff Shed.
His namesake festival is now in Estes Park, with national and regional touring bands and quirky events all weekend, including the frostbite fashion show and the Bands and Bloodys Sunday Brunch. And the Dead Guy Days classics including coffin races and a polar plunge are also back.
Talnua pop-up
Talnua Distillery makes some of our favorite local spirits, even though it can be a little hard to find in its east Arvada office park. But just for this week, Talnua hosts a pop-up whiskey experience in the heart of Olde Town Arvada. Sample the single-pot still whiskey, cocktails and other spirits.
New brew in Littleton
Littleton Brewing Co. opens at 11 a.m. Saturday. From the nascent brewery’s 5,000 Instagram followers, they already seemingly have plenty of eager fans.
The first 200 customers get these cool free pint glasses with their first pours.
Save the date: Chalk Lines and Vines
Tickets are now available for a wine and chalk art festival coming to the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds on May 3 and 4. The 21+ event features wine samples from Colorado wineries, live chalk artists, live music, food trucks, interactive art and more.
As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. If they don’t fit in the Get Out of Town column, we will add them to our events calendar.
