Colorado’s best mountain spas for Mother’s Day

Spoil mom at these relaxing getaways in the Rockies

By the Thirst Team

Mother’s Day is coming up on May 11. Sure, you can get moms flowers and a card. But to take it to the next level, get them a gift of relaxation.

These are some of our favorite spas in Colorado’s mountains. Gift cards are available for all manner of relaxing treatments and therapies at these spots.

Spa Monarch - Black Hawk

In addition to an expansive hotel and gaming area, Monarch Casino Resort in Black Hawk also has more than 30,000 square feet of spa areas.

This includes a relaxation lounge with heated seating and flooring. It is a relaxing and detoxifying alternative to traditional hot saunas. Monarch also offers a brine inhalation light-therapy lounge, herbal steam rooms, an experiential shower and more.

A wide variety of massage and wellness services also are available, as well as body treatments, facials and nail treatments.

The Springs Resort - Pagosa Springs

The Springs Resort just opened new wellness pools, an expanded adults-only area and more upgrades. There are now more than 45 pools to enjoy at this expansive resort along the San Juan River. A stay in the rooms or suites includes water yoga, forest hikes, sound baths and more.

For additional pampering, mom can ease her tension with a 60-minute magnesium muscle melt. Massages, facials and more also are available at the thermal spa.

Spa Anjali - Avon

The eco-conscious Spa Anjali is at the Westin Riverfront in Avon. The 27,000-square-foot spa in the Vail Valley was named one of the top 10 green spas by Organic Spa magazine.

In addition to a range of massage and facial options, the Anjali has three mountain-themed packages, or “spa journeys.” There are options inspired by the Alps and Himalayas, but we are partial to the Rocky Mountain Journey. It includes ponderosa pine therapy; a red clover and mountain honey exfoliating scrub; and hot river stone massage.

Hot Springs Resort - Durango

A soak in a pool at the newly renovated Durango Hot Springs Resort may just be enough to wash away a mother’s stress. For extra luxury and privacy, the resort also has smaller Japanese-style cedar tubs that can be temperature-controlled and exclusively reserved for single guests or couples (sorry kids, there’s no room for you).

In addition, the spa at the resort has a variety of esthetic and massage treatments. One notable offering in this recreation sports mecca is the athlete’s rescue massage designed for muscle recovery.

Yampah Spa - Glenwood Springs

There are plenty of saunas and steam rooms across Colorado, but only one place offers a thermal steam naturally built into an underground vapor cave. Yampah Spa vapor contains 34 revitalizing minerals, and three calming sanctuaries are available — along with a cool room and relaxing solarium.

The Yampah Spa also offers the only private mineral baths in Glenwood Springs. Massages, body wraps and scrubs, facials and other spa treatments are available, along with reiki and other alternative healing processes.
