Watch the eclipse in Springfield

The path of totality for next Monday’s solar eclipse does not pass over Colorado. The closest option is probably Springfield, in the southeast corner of the state. The town will have 80 percent coverage, according to this website, which has a simulation of the eclipse for any location in the state.

Springfield also is the northern gateway to the Comanche National Grassland. Hike or bike a forest service trail and check out ancient rock art or some of the 275 different bird species while you wait for the eclipse. Limestone markers also denote Santa Fe Historic Trail spots in the grasslands.

Taste of Vail

The 32nd Taste of Vail starts today and runs through Saturday with a variety of dinners, wine and food seminars and tastings. The signature events are the Mountaintop Tasting at noon Friday and the Grand of all Grand Tastings at 5 p.m. Saturday. On Thursday, 45 Portuguese wine producers will be on hand for the Port Wine Fest.

Colorado Pint Day

Next Wednesday is Colorado Pint Day, with 235 participating breweries all over the state. Visit any of these locations to buy a limited-edition glass (with or without the beer), and $1 of each pint glass sold will be donated to the Colorado Brewers Guild and its mission to help and promote independent craft breweries in the state.

Stay of the Week: Colorado Wine Country Inn

The Colorado Wine Country Inn in Palisade will host the 14th Edesia Palisade. The event is named for the Roman goddess of food, and features a wine dinner on Saturday, and a wine, spirits and food tasting on Sunday afternoon. The event focuses on local food and beverage crafters in the Grand Valley, and the Sean Moon Band will play live music. All proceeds from both events will go to Marillac Health, a non-profit Mesa County community health center.

Taste of the Week: Bristol Brewing

Bristol Brewing Co. in Colorado Springs hosts a Prohibition party from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday in the Barrel Room and Fermentation Hall. Bristol will pour 33 cent Yellow Kite pints at a swingin' speakeasy. Attendees are required to use the secret password and dress in 1920s or 1930s garb, and there will be a costume contest with prizes at the end of the night, so dress to impress.

The party also includes swing dance lessons at 7:30, Yellow Kite-infused cocktails and a photo booth. Check the brewery’s Facebook and Instagram for hints on the password.
